Darts
Many people use the darts that were included with their
dartboard, or the ones supplied by the pub, when they first
start playing the game. However you will soon find that it's
well worth investing in a good set of darts in order to improve
your game.
This is easier said than done, however, because you will
find that there are endless different darts to choose from.
For example just the barrels themselves come in different
shapes and sizes. You can buy really thin tungsten barrels that
are very light, ie 16-20 grams, or you can buy thicker
and heavier ones that may weigh as much as 30 grams or
more.
Similarly the shafts/stems (ie the parts that connect to the
barrels and hold the flights) also differ in size. Some players
use really short shafts whilst others play with longer ones
that fly through the air better.
Then you've got the flights. These are not standardized
either because you can buy different shaped flights to
accommodate your own particular throwing style.
So the point is that once you've got a decent throwing
style, you should then experiment with different types of darts
to find those that best suit this particular throwing
style.
Some players find that they perform better with lighter
darts, whilst others may find that they are more
accurate when using heavier darts.
There's no right or wrong choice of dart. At the end of
the day you simply have to test out different darts until
you find a set that you are happy with. Then it's just a
case of practicing with this set of darts all the time until
your game starts to improve, which it inevitably will do
if you put the work in.
To check out some of the darts that are available to you, I
can recommend you visit Darts
Corner, the largest online dart store, because they have a
huge selection to choose from.
You can buy the same darts that your favourite darts player
uses, or you can search through them either by price or by
weight. There are literally hundreds to choose from. Here's the
